GlossyBox January 2012 'Pretty in Pink: Valentine's Day Edition' Review

The limited edition Valentine's box is in an amazing shade of neon pink! The pink packaging makes a nice change and there was even a GlossyBox sweet in the box.

1) Murad: Hybrids Skin Perfecting primer- Dewey finish. I really like this product, it has slight tint which works perfectly with my pale skin. It's oil-free too so it won't block pores.

2) Eyeko: Skinny Eyeliner- Emerald Green. The Eyeliner is long so that you can use it easily when there is only a small amount left and it reminds me of an Audrey Hepburn style cigarette holder. I wouldn't have chosen this colour but it is a glamorous vintage green and has a creamy texture so it blends well.

3) Orly: Nail Laquer- Ruby. The scent of this makes me dizzy but it's a nice shade for Winter if you like warmer tones.

4) Weleda: One Step Cleanser and Toner. This seemed to work well enough but I can't stand the herbal almost medicinal scent so I can't enjoy this product as much as other cleansers.

5) Fab: Gentle Body Wash. I haven't used this product yet but I like the fact that it has no scent as I like to wear a scented body butter. The packaging looks retro too which is always a bonus.

Hope you all have a lovely Valentine's Day whatever you're doing. As always if there's anything you'd like me to do a post on (whatever it may be) then let me know!

Middle Eastern Trend

Summer seems so far away but I can't wait to feel warm again! I think that all things Middle Eastern will be perfect for the hot weather and will be able to add glamour to your day.

Think dark, mysterious eye makeup, hamsa hands, snakes, eyes and lots of gold. Wear it casually or at night; you can add a patterned scarf and bright Middle Eastern jewellery to brighten up the cold days until summer arrives too.

I've got my gold hamsa hand jewellery ready but what will you be wearing this summer? Let me know if you're planning ahead like me!

Naked Palette: Cheaper similar shades!

I love Urban Decay's Naked Palette but I know that not everybody wants 12 eye shadows in natural shades or wants to spend that much on their make up. I've already done a post on the Naked Palette so if you want to see the shades I'm going to mention you can have a look at them here

I got the True Colour Quad in Mocha Latte which is from Avon and at the moment it's available for £5 online so if you only want a basic range of natural shades then this is for you. The compact also has a mirror and a double-ended foam applicator although I do prefer to use my own shadow brushes and the Urban Decay brush in the Naked Palette is nicer.

My favourite shades in the Naked Palette were the matte ones and this Avon Quad has dupes for Urban Decay's matte shades 'Naked' and 'Buck' which are great every day colours and can also be used to fill in your eyebrows. The other two shadows are very similar to 'Toasted' and 'Virgin' although Avon's highlighter is slightly warmer.

Avon's Quad is more affordable especially if you just want to experiment with some warmer shades, and it's perfect if you're travelling light as it's small enough to carry in your pocket. If you already have the Mocha Latte Quad let me know if you agree!

Zooey Deschanel inspired nails + makeup

Zooey Deschanel is a style icon and always a little on the quirky side. I'm enjoying her series New Girl at the moment and unless you've been hiding under a rock I'm sure you will have heard about the Golden Globe Awards. Zooey had the cutest tuxedo design on her nails for the awards:

I was inspired by the tuxedo nails and the red carpet glamour and had to paint my nails:

I thought you might like a Zooey inspired eye make up tutorial too so here it is:

Step 1: Use a black liquid eye liner to create a rounded eye shape

Step 2: Soften harsh edges with a black kohl eye liner, cover the lid with a natural eye shadow and add a highlighter to the inner corner of your eye.

Step 3: Curl your eyelashes and add black mascara.

Step 4: Zooey's eyes are always quite bold so apply lots of mascara or add false lashes like Zooey!

If you want to go for the complete Zooey Deschanel look you can curl your hair/ add a pretty bow, and wear blusher with a bright lip in pink or red. Don't forget to use a quirky design on your nails too!

The Versatile Blogger Award

It always shocks me when I find out people have actually read my blog, so getting an award was a lovely surprise! First of all I’d like to thank Becca for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award and you can check out her blog at

There are 3 rules:
1. Thank the person that nominated you, and give them a shout out on your blog with a link to theirs.
2. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
3. Send on the award to 15 other bloggers whose blog you love and appreciate and then let them know they won the award.

Here are the 7 random facts about me:

1. I used to be a ballerina, when I was younger I was a sugar plum fairy in a production of Sleeping Beauty.

2. I named the family puppy Darcy after Mr Darcy because I love Austen novels.

3. I am so rock. I have Grade 2 piano and Grade 3 violin skills.

4. I was named after Lauren Bacall.

5. My boyfriend Ryan asked me out on Friday the 13th. We’ve been going out for 3 years, 7 months and 3 days.

6. I love English but I have practically no idea what to do with the rest of my life once I finish university. All suggestions welcome!

7. I paid for two driving tests but I passed first time. The DSA majorly screwed me over. Sigh.

I’ll be sending this award on to the other bloggers too so they know they’ve won. If you’re still reading this thanks and do let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to include on my blog!
